AI-powered media manipulation extends far beyond traditional photo editing or selective quoting: generative models can produce entirely synthetic media that is visually, audibly, and textually indistinguishable from authentic content. This includes face-swapping in video, voice cloning in audio, style transfer in images, and fluent text generation that mimics specific authors or institutional voices. The defining characteristic is the use of AI to create a false representation of reality that audiences are intended to accept as genuine.
